Gestalt and Goethe
Christian von Ehrenfels
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Jump to: navigation, search
Christian Freiherr von Ehrenfels (June 2, 1859 in Rodaun near Vienna - September 8, 1932 in Lichtenau) was an Austrian philosopher, and is known as one of the founders and precursors of Gestalt psychology.
Although Max Wertheimer is to be credited as the founder of the movement of Gestalt psychology, the concept of Gestalt itself was first introduced in contemporary philosophy and psychology by Ehrenfels in his famous work Über Gestaltqualitäten ("On the Qualities of Form", 1890). The idea of Gestalt has its roots in theories by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe and Ernst Mach. Both he and Edmund Husserl seem to have been inspired by Mach's work Beiträge zur Analyse der Empfindungen ("Contributions to the Analysis of the Sensations", 1886) to formulate their very similar concepts of Gestalt and Figural Moment respectively.
Ehrenfels studied philosophy at the University of Vienna with Franz Brentano and Alexius Meinong, promoted under supervision of Meinong, after the latter's move to the University of Graz, in 1885 on the topic of Größenrelationen und Zahlen. Eine psychologische Studie ("Relations of magnitude and numbers. A psychological study"). He obtained his habilitiation in 1888 in Vienna with the work: Über Fühlen und Wollen ("On feeling and willing"). From 1896 to 1929 he was professor of philosophy at the German university of Prague.

Frightening Facts about your Mortgage
http://www.lovemoney.com/news/mortgages/eight-frightening-facts-about-your-mortgage-4114.aspx?source=1000425
Double, double, Base Rate trouble
The Base Rate is at its lowest ever level -- a miniscule 0.5% -- and this has meant that many borrowers have seen their mortgage payments fall. So despite the country being in recession it's possible you could actually feel better off.
But complacency is madness when the only way is up for Base Rate. Be afraid (be very afraid) of rate rises that could see your monthly repayments increase by £100, £200 or even £500 a month. Those on a variable rate mortgage should beware.
The creep of percentage fees
The rise of the mortgage arrangement percentage fee means it's harder than ever for borrowers to really compare mortgages on a like-for-like basis, and what initially looks like a good deal can have a nasty surprise when you work out the total costs. Percentage fees of up to 3% are in evidence across the market, totalling £6,000 on a £200,000 mortgage. Scary stuff indeed.
Self-cert faces grim reaper
Last week the financial watchdog announced proposals to clean up the mortgage market, including banning all self-cert mortgages. These products, which allow borrowers to declare their own income without it being checked by the lender, have proved invaluable to many business owners, sole traders and seasonal workers.
However, some borrowers used the mortgages to inflate their own income and over-borrow. Now self-cert mortgages have been held up by the regulator as the root of all evil and it wants to axe the products, which will ultimately make life difficult for many law-abiding, solvent, self-employed borrowers, as I explained last week in Why mortgage borrowers could be left high and dry.
The ghost of recessions past
Those who lived, and owned property, through the last recession will get a chill down their spine at the mere mention of negative equity -- where your property's value drops to less than your outstanding mortgage debt.
It's not such a worrying thought at the moment because lenders' default rates are so low, but wait until they rise. Not being able to refinance could be a very scary prospect indeed.
Frightening rates for FTBs
The mortgage market is loosening up a little -- there's no question about that. But one area where the freeze has yet to significantly thaw is the high loan-to-value end of the market for those who need to borrow 90% of a property's value.
So first-time buyers with a 10% deposit can look to pay a scary 2 percentage points more than borrowers with 25% or more as a deposit. And such expensive deals could mean the difference between being able to buy, or not.
Locked into a fix
Fixed rates are safe, secure and nothing to be scared about, aren't they? Well, yes if you accept that you will be paying the agreed amount for the fixed duration. But what if you have a joint mortgage and you split up with your partner one year into a five-year fixed rate (a horrible thought but it happens). Or you need to switch your mortgage because you want to move to a bigger house and get a bigger loan. How will you get out of your existing deal?
The only premature escape from a fix is often to pay an Early Repayment Charge and these can cost a terrifying amount of money. Some ERCs can be 4% of your outstanding loan (some even higher) -- a gruesome £8,000 on a £200,000 mortgage. As you can imagine this is not going to make a relationship breakdown any easier, or be a welcome expense when you are about to commit to a larger mortgage and home. Oh, and of course there will also be an exit fee on top of that.
Costs hidden in dark corners
Make no mistake, all lenders will detail their costs and charges somewhere on their website or on the mortgage documentation that you sign before completing your deal. They, and their lawyers, are clever like that. But the costs can still be hidden in dark corners, cloaked in jargon and ghost-like in their near-invisibility.
As boring as it sounds, you really need to read every page of the jargon, and call your lender for an explanation of anything that looks peculiar. Tricky costs to watch out for are valuation fees and accompanying application fees (which are sometimes listed separately), higher lending charges, early repayment charges and exit fees.
Trick or treat
Super-low rates are enough to turn any borrower's head -- especially those below 2% or 3%.
Unfortunately, these are all variable rates. Ask yourself: can you handle the fear of potentially rising rates? If so, have a look at Woolwich's one-year tracker at 1.98% with a £999 fee, available up to 60% LTV or Northern Rock's two-year tracker at 2.69% with a nice £595 fee. If you want the safety of a fix Northern Rock's two-year deal at 3.69% with a £595 fee is a best buy.

Zwei Probleme zusammen

How to Make Your Agency Successful
Everybody knows in this industry that getting that candidate to the employer is the key to earning revenue! So how do some firms stay on top of the game while others struggle to keep up with the pace.
There are many factors but my experience leads me to believe that charisma alone cannot carry you in the recruitment industry. Connections obviously make up the main asset but what happens when the candidate that you send really does not match the criteria needed. I am sure that this has happened many times! What happens to your credibility?
Some firms claim years in the industry and sure you do pick up certain experiences that make you more viable then others in selection. However in the lucrative markets like I.T , Pharmaceuticals, Scientific and even admin, the world is always changing so what may be an experience yesterday is not necessarily going to keep you on top today!
More and more agencies are turning to the web to place jobs as it brings in a plethora of possible applicants in an automated fashion. Others still use the traditional approach of searching their database of resumes to pool through those that seem to match.
However technology is changing and smart firms look to the automated process in the areas of filtering to eliminate the multitude of unqualified applicants that reply to posts.
From using job filters from firms like Monster, Careerbuilder, a company with a large expense account can get a basic filter product ( usually $400 per 15 applicants tested). Although these basic filters offer a certain removal of unsuitable candidates, they are limited in their ability.
Just imagine, a job post on Careerbuilder can have thousands of replies and even when you get rid of the percentage which really do not fit, you are still left with so many more who look good on paper but are just not what your client is looking for.
Others who have more money then turn to products like Proveit, Brainbench etc to offer more job specific skills, to reduce the filter even further. However at an average $50 per applicant test, how viable is it. For many, not so as there are many other competitors out there who are also trying to place the same job.
Clearly there are arguments against automated filters, some justified as most of the filters do not allow you to integrate your own questions, limit flexibility to use other technologies that could explode the accuracy of your selection, such as video based questions (where "what happens next" scenarios could really identify qualified candidates to client needs) and are exceeding expensive for a mid to small size agency.
However with new technologies offered by Supercandidate, even a small operation can increase their effectiveness and place quality candidates like the big firms. Such technologies reduce cost of use by over 95% while offering more features such as video, sound, cell phone and other important media, rapidly improving the survival and success of the smaller firm!
They say that flexibility to change is a company's best strength in growth and success, with the advent of filters, it is key to make sure that your employment company understands their worth to keep your business model one successful in the game!

Dear Christopher Stanley,
KAUST IMC

KAUST IMC, a wholly owned subsidiary of KAUST, is responsible for the investment strategy of the University's endowment fund. It is governed by an independent Board of Directors, made up of some of the most accomplished and respected leaders in the global investment community. The move is an important milestone in KAUST's development, bringing the University another step closer to full-fledged operations when it opens its main campus in Thuwal, Saudi Arabia, in September 2009. He also worked for eight years at the International Monetary Fund, where he specialized in macroeconomic adjustment programs in Latin America, Africa and Asia, and on Fund conditionality.

Answering Macine Message (apocryphal)
This is the message that the Maroochydore High School Queensland , staff voted unanimously to record on their school telephone answering machine . This is the actual answering machine message for the school. This came about because they implemented a policy requiring students and parents to be responsible for their children’s absences and missing homework. The school and teachers are being sued by parents who want their children’s failing grades changed to passing grades – even though those children were absent 15-30 times during the semester and did not complete enough school work to pass their classes, and put this on the answerphone.
The outgoing message:
Hello! You have reached the automated answering service of your school. In order to assist you in connecting to the right staff member, please listen to all the options before making a selection:
To lie about why your child is absent – Press 1
To make excuses for why your child did not do his work – Press 2
To complain about what we do – Press 3
To swear at staff members – Press 4
To ask why you didn’t get information that was already enclosed in your
newsletter and several flyers mailed to you – Press 5
If you want us to raise your child – Press 6
If you want to reach out and touch, slap or hit someone – Press 7
To request another teacher, for the third time this year – Press 8
To complain about bus transportation – Press 9
To complain about school lunches – Press 0
If you realize this is the real world and your child must be accountable
and responsible for his/her own behaviour, class work, homework and that
it’s not the teachers’ fault for your child’s lack of effort: Hang up and
have a nice day!
If you want this in another language, move to a country that speaks it.
